If you're shopping around for a tractor canopy this buying guide was written for you.

We’ll discuss what types are available and what to look for – BEFORE you buy one!

If you have a tractor without a cab enclosure, aftermarket sunshades are great & inexpensive way to give you protection from the beating sun. And a little rain protection too. If you're working around low hanging branches or limbs, a tractor canopy will also give your head important protection. And they can be also be used as a nice platform to mount an antenna, custom lighting, etc.

Tractor canopies are designed to attach to your roll bar or ROPS with a mounting bracket. And they’re made in aluminum, fiberglass, canvas, steel or UV protected high-density thermoplastic.

Types of Tractor Canopies & the Pros & Con's of each:

Aluminum is lightweight, so it's easy to lift & install. Aluminum ones are available in painted, diamond plate or unpainted versions. I do like the look of aluminum canopies, but the drawback is that they can dent or scratch fairly easily.

Steel tractor canopies are generally powder coated and are available in a variety of colors. They are sturdier & heavier than aluminum models and they are almost always the most expensive. And, like aluminum, they are prone to dents and scratches. Unfortunately, if you scratch the powder coated paint finish, they can rust.

A fiberglass tractor canopy is also lightweight and they come in a wide range of colors. And they are less costly than aluminum or steel, which I really like. But, you have to be careful with a fiberglass sunshade because, as you probably know, it can crack or crush really easily. And the pigment in fiberglass does fade and sometimes the color develops a ghostly white cast to it.

From what I've seen, the canvas tractor canopies - also known as buggy tops - are really suited for older/vintage equipment. You'll find canvas sunshades as two bow, three bow, five bow and umbrellas models too. They really look sharp on the older tractors and they're made in colors to match/compliment equipment. Since they are canvas, they can fade or rip over time.

Then there are UV protected high-density thermoplastic tractor canopies. This is the same material that is used for making those tough roadside traffic barrels. These sunshades are lightweight and come in a lot of colors. And the colors on UV protected thermoplastic canopies are incredibly fade resistant. One of the best things I like about these is that they are unbreakable. No cracks, dents or fading. The thermoplastic always bounces back to its original shape. These sunshades never get that tired, beaten up look. And as you shop around, you'll see that they are usually much lower priced than aluminum, steel or fiberglass. I have a thermoplastic sunshade and I couldn't be happier.

So, I can heartily recommend the Femco Tuff Top as the best UV protected high-density thermoplastic tractor canopy. And they're entirely made in the USA, which I think is important! Femco Tuff Tops fit on any tractor that has a 2 x 2 or 3 x 2 ROPS and they come in a wide selection of colors including John Deere green, Kubota orange, New Holland blue and more. And they're shipped by UPS.
